Life gets a little crazy and complicated at times–we could look at 2020 on a global level and see how crazy and complicated life is. There’s a global pandemic and a US Presidential Election. We’ve had natural disasters strike different places around the globe. People divided. It’s rough–just looking at it on a global level.
But then there are the things that happen on a personal level. Maybe it’s a season of celebration and although 2020 has been rough for the globe, it’s been a great year for you personally. While someone else may be seeing that 2020 is terrible all the way around. It’s difficult with all the trials being thrown your way–maybe a death of family member, break ups, financial struggle, and so much more that you could be juggling.
Regardless of what circumstances are happening in life, we can rest that God is on the throne. He is on the throne. He is in control. We may not understand what exactly is happening, but when we transition our focus from ourselves to our God, things begin to change.
Levi Lusko recently wrote a new 40 day devotional book called Take Back Your Lifeand it’s all about changing your thoughts and focusing on the Lord. In a world that keeps changing, it’s great to be able to focus ourselves on God’s character!
The 40-Day devotional includes a daily Bible verse, a devotion, a prayer, and a “breathe, think, live” questions (these ask questions based off the devotion that are both encouraging and challenging).
Not only does the book provide you with some thought provoking questions to bring your focus back to God, but Lusko has provided online FREE resources as well to go along with the book–including a Kids Guide.

Like most girls, I have dreamt of the perfect wedding day since I was little. I remember as a little girl walking down the hallway with a blanket wrapped around my waist as a wedding dress train and another blanket laying on my head for the veil. I watched all of the Disney wedding movies, TLC’s A Wedding Story (even thinking my wedding would one day be on there), and made the Pinterest board when Pinterest came out!
Even after dreaming for years, our wedding was far better than I could ever ask for, especially in the middle of a global pandemic when you have to plan the wedding multiple times and for all different gathering sizes.
But before I get to all the little details, Alec and I consistently said throughout the wedding planning process that our wedding wasn’t about us–it’s about God. So when we talked about our wedding day, we knew we wanted it to be focused on what God was joining together. It wasn’t about a big event for people to come party, but rather an opportunity for us to share the Gospel with our friends and family, glorify God, and celebrate what God was miraculously joining together.
And to be honest, having God as the center of not only the wedding process but our individual lives made planning a wedding amidst the COVID crisis so much easier. We knew even if the state didn’t open up to where we could have all our wedding guests in attendance, we would get married with our families present and God would still be in control and still be glorified and a celebration would happen regardless of the size!
With that said, I can’t wait to share with you all the different people and elements of our wedding day!!
Kalli June Photography did all the pictures for our wedding! Most of the pictures you’ll see here are from her! When I was looking for a photographer, I asked my matron of honor–who just so happens to be a photographer as well–who she would recommend, and Kalli was at the top of the list! And I am so grateful we had Kalli!
Kalli was so kind and so professional throughout the whole day! Her packages are displayed perfectly on her website, and she helps get you exactly what you’re looking for. We ended up having two photographers for the weekend, and Kalli helped in every way making the day run smoothly!
Alec proposed with an engagement ring from Droste’s Jewelry Shop! I am in love with the ring! He did a great job capturing simplicity and elegance! When we started looking for wedding bands to go with the engagement ring, my mom gave me some of my Memaw’s diamonds to make the wedding band!
Turley Jewlers has been used in my family for three generations and it seemed fitting for them to create our wedding bands! Turley’s is great to work with and customized both of our wedding bands. Alec’s wedding band is white gold with a brush finish and mine is customized to hold Memaw’s diamonds!
My shoes and a headband (you’ll see this in the pictures here soon) are from David’s Bridal (after countless hours of searching). My bracelet and earrings I found on clearance at Dillard’s! YAY!!
All Things Paper
The first thing a wedding guest sees are the invitations and Bobbi Hammonds is AMAZING at creating! She made so many fun things for our wedding, so I’m just going to let her work speak for itself!
Alec and I had so much fun getting gifts for everyone in the wedding party! It was like Christmas around here getting packages during the shut down and then wrapping them!
FOR THE GIRLS
FOR THE FLOWER GIRLS
We gave the flower girls the coral bags above, but we also got our sweet girls a couple of other fun things! Starting with their cute little headbands to wear during the ceremony and this sweet little necklace!
Also, before I forget, I loved the simplicity of their dresses to go along with all the fun gifts they got too!
FOR THE GUYS
This one was all my husband’s idea!! He LOVES superheroes, so it pretty much went without saying that they guys were getting some kind of superhero gift when we started thinking of gifts. ETSY came in clutch again!
The cufflinks come in a little bag and the actual paper label comes separately in the package. All you have to do is place the cufflinks through the perforated holes, which is super easy. I preferred it this way just because it made sure nothing got bent.
The socks were GENIUS!! Out of all the different brands that make these on Etsy, these had the best reviews with all the heroes we needed–not to mention full color and personalization!
We completed their gift with a tie from Azazie that matched the girls’ dresses perfectly!
FOR THE RING BEARER
Our ring bearer is one of the greatest people ever! I absolutely LOVE his family! They have been a huge part of my life and it meant so much to me to have him in our wedding! He also LOVES baseball. Unfortunately, I never got a picture of his gift, but I found a customized baseball and knew he would love it! Then we completed his gift with a bowtie for the wedding!
Two words we used over and over again during our wedding decor conversations: simple and romantic. And OBJ Design made everything we wanted come to life! Jane did everything from the aisle runner, decorating the church, decorating the reception hall, and even did the bouquets for the wedding! And I would have her do it all again. Her team does an incredible job and I cannot speak highly of them enough!
We had white shear running all the way across the stage with cascading candles and greenery that connected the aisle runner to the stage. The off-center greenery on the stag was intentional because it framed me in every picture the photographer would take from either side!
Our flowers consisted of greenery and white flowers, but we did have the occasional pop of color with more of an orange coral! We loved the coral bouquets blocked off the center isle, but I loved how the green and white ones were up on the stage!
My mom actually came up with this table design and decorated it! It’s one of the only things OBJ didn’t do, but it fit the decor perfectly! My mom found white 8×10 frames, black and white photos of those we would have loved to be at our wedding, and a gorgeous stone from a local Christian Bookstore! But to add a little color, we found handmade ornaments representing each person. Some of the ornaments represent their job while others are their hobbies!
THE BOUQUETS AND BOUTONNIÈRES
Our venue for the reception was Rolling Hills Country Club, and I loved every bit of it there! The place itself is just beautiful, and Jane made it even more fabulous!
I love the simple elegance of things! The reception we kept pretty simple with greens, whites, and a few pieces of bling every once in a while!
Our guest tables had four different decorations on them for the round tables. The first one was a tall, crystal vase for the flowers. This was the tallest arrangement we had. I loved the skinniness of the vase because people didn’t have to move their heads to the left or to the right in order to see across the table! The floral arrangement for this one was to mimic my bouquet and I loved it!
The next two arrangements were somewhat similar. Both of them consisted of more color with a navy blue circle with flowers sitting in a silver mirrored box or in a silver vase. This floral arrangement matched the bridesmaids’ bouquets and I loved them! We added two candlesticks to either side of the arrangement as well to provide some height!
Our final arrangement was geometric! Jane actually spray painted this one silver because they were all gold and I loved the way it turned out! There was a candle resting inside the geometric shape with matching flowers all the way around it! I love the way this one looked sitting on top of the navy blue ring!
We also had an added room with rectangular tables instead of round tables. For these tables, we just had greenery and candles on them–again, I love simple!
Each place setting had a navy blue napkin draped across the edge hanging off the table. We also put everyone’s name card out with the party favor as well (more on that later). The “I Do” and “Ring” placed on the table were used for our toast as bottle openers!
THE HEAD TABLE
I can’t say enough how much I loved Jane from OBJ Designs! She made everything with our vision come to life and the head table did not disappoint!
Greenery and white flowers lined the edge of the table with vases spaced out on the table for the bridesmaids’ bouquets when they got there! Our table had the girls on one side and the guys on the other with Alec and I sharing a round table for ourselves! I loved that we added the round table in there so we didn’t squeeze everyone around two tables!
Our round table was set apart from all the other tables with a glitter or rhinestone table cloth! It was very subtle, but so pretty! Jane hooked us up with these really pretty white chairs with matching Mr. and Mrs. signs that are just too adorable. I also love how the head table matches the ceremony with the cascading flowers and candles!
Let me start off by saying, that I am not a cake person! I’ve always loved cookie cake, or better yet, chocolate chip cookies. However, my family LOVES a good piece of cake, so it went without saying that we would have cake at our wedding. Then we ran across Rhonda Fehrenbacher and I may be converted to liking cakes because I LOVED HER CAKES!
She held a cake testing for us, and she made her basic flavors–chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry. I’m pretty sure I ate a whole cake myself because it was so good! I highly recommend the strawberry–which is something I never even thought I would suggest. We added in a marble cake as well, because that one is probably my favorite cake if I had to pick one!
I sent Rhonda a few of my ideas for a cake and she made it come to life! The flowers were provided by Jane from OBJ Designs, and Rhonda placed them on the cake.
She did the grooms cake as well, and created a chocolate-chocolate cake–Alec loves all things chocolate! He specifically loves brownie, and she created a brownie Batman!
Our cake topper was customized through Tri-State Trophies! They do so much more than just trophies, and I loved it! It was actually kind of perfect because it replicated a picture Alec and I had taken from our engagement!
It’s a tradition in my family to have Cokes during celebratory times because it’s a way to remember my Gramps! Everyone in the wedding party received a custom bottle with their name on it, and then all the wedding guests received a coke as well!
The Wedding Attire
Let’s start with the guys this time! Their suits were from Haggar, The Active Series Herringbone Suit, which thankfully comes in Big and Tall sizes as well as regular sizes! I loved the color of these suits and it was perfect for our day!
The ladies all picked out their dresses from Azazie in the color Dusty Blue!
THE WEDDING DRESS
My dress… now I know they say you never actually get what you’re looking for when it comes to the wedding dress, but that was not my story. I loved my dress! In fact, I want to wear it all the time! It’s just so fun!
One of my co-workers at the time recommended this little boutique downtown, Opulence Bridal, that sold wedding dresses. I was just starting out on my dress journey and made an appointment. The owner, Ashley, shuts down the store and gives you the place to yourself.
I sent her a few pictures of what I was looking for in a dress, and then she had my mom, sister, and best friend pull some of their favorite dresses off the rack, AND some dresses that I would never wear and we started trying on!
We started with the ones that were a NEVER for me, and even the never dresses were GORGEOUS, but just not what represented me! I ended up going with exactly what I was looking for and couldn’t believe I found THE DRESS the first go!
The Ceremony and Celebration
THE GUESTBOOK QUILT
As people came into our wedding, instead of signing a traditional guestbook, my mom made a gorgeous quilt that matches our personality perfectly! People signed along the edges of the quilt, which is just a fun different touch to our ceremony!
Alec and I LOVED our wedding day, but I think the highlight of it for us was the ceremony! It was something that meant so much to us because it was a time of worship and glorifying God! We wanted those in attendance to feel like they had been to church, and from our vantage point we accomplished that!
If you’re interested in our ceremony, you can click here to view the details of the ceremony! We 10/10 recommend having worship at your wedding because it totally helped settle any nerves and it helps focus you on what matters–God.
We did an exit with Bubbles–with the key to a lot of bubbles being bubble guns! I have no idea where these came from, my mom found them somewhere! But it looked so cool!
When we arrived at the reception, my parents surprised us with a PHOTO BOOTH for all our guests to enjoy! I loved having this there for our guests to take photos! The Photo Booth that we used gives the Bride and Groom a photo book of all the pictures that were taken and the guests can write a little note to go along with it!
Our DJ was SongBird, who brought some great music for the evening! And we loved the party!
It’s crazy to think that we got married in the middle of a GLOBAL PANDEMIC, but I’m so grateful we were able to have a day to remember regardless of the state of the world!
June 20, 2020 will be a day I remember so vividly. It’s true, what they say, the day happens so fast, but I’m so thankful Alec and I took a few moments out of the day to slow down and just appreciate all that God had done in our lives to bring us to the point of marriage. Now, we’re just even more excited to see what God is going to do through our marriage!
